Carnegie Portrait Series (Art Prints)

“The human body is the best picture of the human soul.” (Ludwig Wittgenstein, Philosophy of Psychology—A Fragment, §25)

In the past decade, I have been participating in the portrait drawing group at Carnegie Community Centre, located at Main and Hastings in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, a neighbourhood known for its vibrant community as well as its challenges. During our drawing sessions, we invited visitors of the centre to sit for us for 25 minutes. Our models came from diverse backgrounds, and many of them shared their stories, thoughts, imaginations, hopes and despairs with us.

The drawing sessions have allowed me to experiment with different approaches to portraiture in various media and formats. A selection of my drawings is presented here in the form of 5-inch by 7-inch prints, which makes them not only more unified as a body of work but also more accessible to a wider audience than the originals would have been.

All prints are available for sale at an affordable price. For enquiries, send an email to info@kamsingleung.ca.
